Photonic packaging for CPO
Production AI-interconnect CPO (2027-2030) is won by inorganic photonic-packaging platforms (TFLN, BTO/SiN, silicon nitride); polymer 2PP/xolography materials do not qualify

The callOptics is moving into the chip package; the inorganic modulator and fibre-attach layer underneath is where a merchant supplier can still win, and polymer loses.
- D1Links inside the rack get too short and hot for copper, and pluggables at the faceplate run short on speed, reliability and yield at 2027 volumes.
- D2Foundries want drop-in electro-optic modulators, reworkable fibre attach and wafer-scale alignment, which they do not make themselves.
- R1Foundries insource once the process is de-risked, which is what COUPE is, and HyperLight's $80M from Taiwan's packaging ecosystem prices the merchant layer for absorption.
- R2No independent company in the layer is active today, and only 10-15% of scale-up links may migrate to CPO by 2030-31.
- C1A merchant foundry publishes a production-qualified BTO or lithium niobate tile in an open design kit, making ferroelectric modulators the CPO standard.Dec 2027

- 16 Jul 2026Co-packaged optics is industrialising around inorganic modulator materials; this quarter the flagship thin-film lithium niobate platform raised from the Taiwanese packaging and foundry ecosystem itself. The material-class question in optical interconnect looks increasingly settled in favour of the inorganics.
