Memory disaggregation and storage
CXL is a standard the incumbents wrote, so the fabric closes by acquisition to Astera, Marvell and the memory makers; controllers are taken, and the layer underneath is the one to watch.

The callBear, because the standard and the controller layer belong to Astera Labs, Marvell, Montage and the DRAM makers, and anything that gets big is bought. If this is wrong the market goes from $710M to $7.2B by 2035 and a device beneath the controller stays independent.
- D1Inference and agents carry a working memory per conversation that outgrows the HBM on the GPU, so memory, not compute, limits users per cluster.
- D2Servers tie memory to one socket and strand most of it, and GPU memory is fixed and expensive per gigabyte, so a shared pool pays for itself.
- R1The incumbents wrote the CXL standard and hold the controller and media layers, so there is no opening for a device or materials startup.
- R2Startups that get big get bought: Enfabrica at $900M+ by NVIDIA, Elastics.Cloud by Broadcom.
- R3Software that moves the working memory onto ordinary DRAM and flash could take some of the need away.
- C1The first hyperscaler production deployment of pooled CXL 3.x memory for inference, taking working-memory offload from pilot to volume.2027
