The callAn orbital power grid is physically possible now, but almost every spacecraft can fit a bigger array and battery for less; the paying market barely exists.

  1. D1Compute and industry start moving into orbit: Cowboy Space pivoted to orbital datacentres at a $2B valuation, and lunar bases and drone fleets need power in shadow.
  2. D2Defence money and the first orbit tests: DARPA put 800W across 8.6km and Star Catcher launched Protostar on 1 Oct 2026.
  3. R1Most spacecraft can fit a bigger array and battery for less than about $400/kWh delivered, and megaconstellations make their own power.
  4. R2Beamed power comes off another satellite's array at 10-30% end to end, and tokens from orbit cost about 8x Earth on flown hardware, 2x with free launch.
  5. R3No acquisition of a beaming company is on record, and Energous, the only listed wireless-power company, is worth $59.6M on $10.5M of revenue.
