A solid-state transformer replaces a line-frequency copper-and-iron transformer with high-frequency power electronics, usually silicon carbide switches around a small high-frequency transformer. It takes medium-voltage AC from the grid and delivers a regulated output directly, such as 800 V DC for an AI rack, in one unit, with control over power flow that a passive transformer cannot give.
